The Baden Baden Satellite Reef continues to tour around Europe. During Fall 2025 through Spring 2026, various islands from the BBSR will be on-show at the Bundekunsthalle in Bonn, and at the Palais de la Porte Doree in Paris.

In Bonn, the Reef is part of a massive, richly immersive exhibition titled Expedition to the World’s Oceans, focusing on “exploration and investigation of different facets of maritime worlds and their processes of transformation” through a presentation of “objects from the realms of science, technology and nature,” alongside ocean-inspired artworks both past and contemporary. On exhibit from the BBSR are the Neon Island and the Variegated Island. Thanks, as always, to the 4,000+ German crafters who contributed corals to these monumental works of collaborative fiber art.

Exhibition Curators: Katharina Chrubasik and Agnieszka Lulinska

Exhibition Dates: Oct 2, 2025 — April 6, 2026

About the exhibition:

“Approximately 70 % of the Earth’s surface is covered with water, of which 96.5 % is seawater. The oceans are thought to be the source of all life on earth. They provide raw materials, energy, food, transport routes and function as a climate machine. Humans have been using the oceans as a global highway for 4,000 years, so it seems almost paradoxical that today we know more about the surfaces of the Moon and Mars than about the world’s oceans, only 5 % of whose depths have been explored …

Taking a cultural, historical and scientific approach, our immersive exhibition focuses on the exciting and pleasurable exploration and investigation of different facets of maritime worlds and their processes of transformation. The exhibition concentrates on three main themes: The deep sea with its mysterious habitats and fragile ecosystem, the oceans as a contested economic space and the basis for globalisation and, finally, the oceans as a place of longing”
